So I posted the pic a while back of pink taffy that was said to be chicken used for McDonalds Chicken McNuggets (McFuggits!). Turns out it wasn't totally true, and not totally false. A reader found out via Snopes. Which I appreciate. I hate being wrong, and misinforming people. But don't we all get mad at the bearer of bad news?! I did, for a moment. But I got over it.

So now I come to you with another Chicken McNugget revelation, and this time it is true! You can Snopes yer ass for this one al you want.

WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER EAT CHICKEN McNUGGETS FROM McDONALDS:
and I quote...

"Aside from chicken and oil, those “stabilizers and preservatives” are said to include dimethylpolysiloxane, a form of silicone also used in cosmetics. Dimethylpolysiloxane, a form of silicone also used in cosmetics!!!!! DO YOU WANNA EAT THAT??! F*cking SILICONE used in Cosmetics!! Sh*t you put on yer damn face is in yer food!!! Who would do that? And why are they not in prison for systematically harming humans daily!!

Tertiary Butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), a form of butane. F*cking BUTANE in my FOOD???!!! Are you kidding me?!!! BUTANE from a lighter? Butane used to ignite fires? In MY FOOD?!!!

You have choices people! Stop eating from the dollar menu, and stop eating meals that come as combos, or that you can order as, "let me have the number 2, and super size it please." Super size yer ass! Go to a local, family owned and operated spot if you can, or cook at home. But definitely do not eat CHICKEN McNUGGETS (McFUGGITS)!!

I posted a pic of a pink tube yesterday that was listed as mechanically separated and pureed chicken product. The pic was part true, part false. Big corporations like Mc Donalds and what not used to use this style of food, but it has been reported that they no longer use the meat paste.

Sorry to you for that. I wanna bring you stuff that is true/factual, or at least true to me. I posted the image and content immediately because I did see the process of pink food paste chicken prepared on The Jamie Oliver show before, and I knew it did exist, and that it did happen at one time or another. But I guess practices have changed. Good. That meat paste looks no bueno.

BigStar is a taco spot in Wicker Park is Monte-licious! I am really into the Pollo Tostada right now. Thetacos are great, and you should definitely try em. But when ya go there ya gottaget the Pollo Tostadas!!! And the Horchata!

Let me explain: Pollo Tostada. The pollo tostada for me hasbecome the thing to get at BigStar. Even though the place has been around for awhile, I just discovered it. Anyway, the pollo tostada comes on a small, flat &crispy tortilla shell. I say small because it is smaller than yer standard tacoshell. BigStar uses the appetizer size shells vs. the standard size shells yerused to seeing most everywhere else. Oh yeah, the food is tasty, but comes at apremium price. Back to the tostada… Atop the hard shell is stewed chicken.The chicken is so soft, tender and delicious! And smothered in a red mildsauce. Then the meat itself is smothered in a silky, sour cream and topped off with pumpkinseeds and extra crispy onion rings. Freakin Monte-licious!!!

The Pollo Tostada is a must have. As well as the Horchata. Which is dairy free!!! It’s made from almond milk vs. milk. So smooth, creamy,vanilla-eee, and cinnamon-eeee.

Big Star is usually packed, so take it to go. They havebenches right by the take it to go window. So you can sit there, eatimmediately, and not have to leave a tip.

I have a gripe with BigStar though. I went one Saturday at 2p.m. (on January 7^th.) to the "to go" window and ordered the PolloTostadas like I have been doing. I ask em to leave off the raw onions andcilantro. No big deal. But this past Saturday, a woman with a crappy power trip was workin the window, and she said that leaving off the onions andcilantro was “No Substitutions” and they don’t do substitutes. I said I have been there 3 days in a row, ordered the same thing and it was never an issue. Then I let her know I wasn't asking for a substitute, but just do not add the two items. She said it again, "No substitutions!" Of course Ileft. Angrily. I had just been talking it up to a friend who had never beenthere, and this happens. I wasn’t asking for a substitute, which by definitionis a replacement of something or someone. I was asking them to not add two items they just either throw on top, or not. Again, no big deal. A substitute would have been if I had asked her to replace the chicken for steak. Which really, substitutes should never be an issue in my opinion. But some places are super busy, and have a system, and if you mess with that system, you really bog the system down. I understand that. But to not add two items?! I am saving you time, money, and not asking for a "Substitute!" You can’t hire people with poor educationsto work with the public. That is my gripe. Everyone else I have come intocontact with that works there has been great!!

I love Supper Clubs. I think one of my favorite places to sit down for a meal is at a supper club. It always feels classy and grown up. Wisconsin is full of em, and I found a great one in Cuba City, Wisconsin. For Illinoisans, this is 20/30 mins. from Galena, in the upper western tip of Illinois. We go to visit a good friend Jimmy Berg out there as often as possible. He plays almost every night in one great band or another. He also turns us on to good food while we visit. This place was one of his most recent selections. My wife found it on the internet as well, but his blessings locked it in as a pick. And are we glad we went. Not only was the food great, but the people were amazing. We met the owner (super nice), a lovely couple (Tony & Donna), and happened to be there the night of a H.S. reunion. So it was a great night at Red's top to bottom. Plus the waitresses were mostly make loveable. Let's check out the FOOD!!!

Any supper club worth it's weight will have enough food on the table for free that you technically shouldn't even have to order dinner. But you will!!!!!!! Here we have a bread basket that also has two cinnamon rolls. Cinnamon rolls for dinner. YES! You also get crackers, and veggie plate.

Dipping sauces also come complimentary. Here we have a cheese dip, ham salad, and a dill dip. All were delicious!

The (Optimus) Prime Rib, with Lobster Tail!! It was ridiculous. The prime rib was tender, juicy, and meaty. The lobster tail was fresh, and flavorful. Both were cooked to perfection.

I got the Rib Dinner, and for my potatoes I got the camping style potatoes. They came wrapped in foil seasoned lightly in salt, pepper, and olive oil. This was the real deal. The potatoes tasted exactly the same as when I camp, you can't go wrong.

The Ribs!! Pork ribs. Very meaty, tender, and they fall off the bone. With a pinch of help. The sauce was mild, and slightly sweet.

The place was so good, we went back the next day for breakfast. We both got the pork chops and eggs. The chops were thick, and savory. The poached eggs were soft, all the way cooked through and full of life. They had shredded hash browns, and american cut hash browns. Above are the american.

Chocolate Souffle! First time you make it, it'll be perfect. I hope.

I recently learned how to make a chocolate souffle from my friend Michael Sanchez. Quick side note, I bought the chocolate bars with 5 bucks I won from a foolish bet Mike made with me, that I knew I was gonna win. It actually made it taste better. My wife and I could both taste the winning in the ingredients. Anyway... This looked so easy, and delicious, i had to make it myself. My first try, complete success, and easy. I also learned how to improve on a few things. And now I will tell, and show you through pics. how to make a creamy, warm, chocolatey, molten chocolate souffle. Mike said it, but I was thinking it immediately, male or female, no one can succumb to the charms of this meal. If you wanna guarantee some action after a date, make this for yer favorite guy, or girl, and unless they have no pulse, you will be gettin laid. And if not, and yer a hot chick, try me. Eye winking, with smiley face. Here it be, good luck...

you will need one 3.5 ounce bitter sweet chocolate bar

butter to coat baking dish

sugar, it's most of what you need. the recipe calls for 3/4 cup. here is my improvement; less than halfa cuppa sugar.

ghetto double cooker to melt chocolate, and sugar together

here is where you use the butter, to coat whatever you bake yer souffle in. coat it in butter

then coat it in sugar that you use from what yer using to prepare souffle. you don't need extra sugar

break up the chocolate bar

put chocolate in ghetto double cooker, this prevents burning of chocolate, and allows a slower cook

mix half of the sugar you have into the chocolate

stir in the sugar till smooth

it should look like this, when it does, move on to the eggs

you will need 3 eggs. and to separate the yolks from the whites

look at how easy it is to separate the white of the egg from the yellow. even an ape can do it

separated, like my friends parents

mix remaining sugar into the yellow (yolks) and stir

stir till it looks completely mixed, and smooth

now mix the egg whites till they peak, like a giant meringue

now mix the chocolate, slowly into the egg yellow (yolks)

mix in till it gets smooth and creamy

when the chocolate is mixed in fully with the yolks, add the eggs whites. fold in the egg whites. do not mix. folding means you just mix lightly from under to the top. you are folding it lightly together to keep the fluff of the egg whites.

i didn't mix it to smoothly, but the clumpy parts of white are like a neat little smores treat within the souffle, improvement number two. pour the mix into the butter, and sugar coated baking bowl. bake at 350 for 20 to 25 min.

Mixteco Grill at 1601 W. Montrose Ave. in Lakeview is mostly known for their excellent, delicious Mexican dinners. They make amazing pork chops!! But they have begun to serve brunch on the weekends, not the weekdays! And they're brunch specialties are Monte-licious!!

They have Huevos & Chorizo, Chilaquiles, but the last two times I went, I had the Huevos El Bajio! These are poached eggs, which I love, served in a philo dough like, corn masa boat, smothered in a creamy poblano sauce, and topped off with a savory, and juicy chorizo. Some of the best chorizo I have eaten in months! Not greasy, cheap, full of fat and grisel, but tender, juicy, and full of spicy flavor that I can almost guarantee you'll enjoy. If not, well.... that would change the dynamic of our relationship. Just sayin.

They also make fresh corn tortilla shells, they are not from a factory, nor are their chips. and they have fresh squeezed oj, and pretty good coffee. And the dinners are unlike most any other Mexican spot within miles!

These jerks are closed on Mondays, and don't open till 5 p.m. week nights. And now they are open at 10, or 10:30 a.m. on the weekends, until 2 p.m. to serve you up a superb brunch! And there is currently no line, or wait for a table.

La Palapita is in Chicago's lovely Portage Park neighborhood at 4263 W. Milwaukee Ave. Yes there are now tons of Mexican spots in Chicago, and yes there are a lot of good ones. Palapita is one of the great ones!! When I was a kid, you could say "La Palapita" 3 times in a row, rub yer belly, and the burritos would magically appear! It was wonderful! Now I have to drive there. Sad face.

If you follow me, you know, I love everything, and anything that is made on a char grill, and La Palapita's steak tacos are char grilled, and always have been. This place has been around for over 20 years! And I have been going there for all, over 20 years. I learned to order my food in Spanish thanks to this place. I actually used to hate hearing my cousin order in broken spanish, I felt the guys hated hearing it. I was wrong, and it makes things much easier.

If you love excellent, meaty, savorful, steak tacos, this is the spot. The also have excellent, house made chips, and salsa. I do not respect a Mexican spot that gets their chips from a bag. They also have excellent, but super sweet, Rice Water. Plus they have amazing rub on tattoos for only 50 cents!!!! I can eat, and get a cool tat in the process.

Now the Paleo portion. I have changed the way I look at food, and most meals I eat now, I cut the carbs, and the stuff that's not so great for me on the inside. And here is a perfect example. I enjoyed every bite of this delicious STEAK BURRITO, and none of the carbs. I lost weight eating this meal, just by opening the burrito, ya gotta ask them not to cut it, and eating out all the goodies with a fork. When I was down with my meal, I left feeling satisfied, almost full, not bloated, or tired, and I had a great meal out. You can do it too. If it works for you, because it definitely works for me.

The other thing I should mention, Palapita has their own parking lot, which helps, and they sometimes have a cute girl taking yer order. Sometimes. They have other food options besides burritos, and besides steak. But that is what I go there for, but anything else is there is great too.

Since my injury, rutured achilles tendon, I have been cooking at home. Here is an excellent treat for you.

So I ruptured my achilles tendon a few weeks back, and needed surgery. Surgery was a success, and I feel great. But I have not left the house, except for doctors appts. I live on a second floor, and I am not so good on the crutches, and you know I love to eat out. What to do?

Well, my wife and I, mostly her, have been cooking every single meal at home over the past two weeks. But where I can help, I love to feel of use. Plus cooking is so much freakin fun. Anyway, I decided to help one day by looking for something interesting, and delicious to eat. My wife had mentioned her famous cheese stuffed dates, and that got the juices flowing.

What came out of it was one of the tastiest freakin apetizers I have had in a while. Or until we find/create another delicious treat. So let us check out what we have here...

Dates (pitted, and split down the middle)
Italian Sausage, or any sausage to yer liking
Bacon
Tooth picks

After you pit, and split the dates, over stuff them bitches, and I do mean over stuff them bitches!! With Italian sausage, or any sausage to yer liking, then wrap a slice of bacon, that has been cut in half, you do not need a full slice of bacon, around the stuffed date. Then run a tooth pick through it to hold it together. Bake in a baking pan for on 375 degrees for 25 to 35 min. Keep checking till they look done. You will know what that looks like, and if you don't, do not try this recipe. But remember, meat should be cooked all the way through to prevent you from becoming ill. Which you probably already are, if yer a fan of mine. And I love you for it!!!!!!!

Enjoy these, and if you don't.... I don't wanna hear about it!

Also, this recipe is Paleo, and somewhat healthy for you. That is if you don't eat a ton of garbage to begin with.

Leahs Pizzeria & Restaurant in Muskego, Wisconsin at S63W13640 Janesville Rd (this address actually works in a GPS) has some of the all time best Garlic Bread I have ever eaten in my life!!

So first off, let me explain how I discovered Leahs in Wisconsin, which by the way, is not that far, with no traffic, and worth the trip if yer in or around Milwaukee, wi. Anyway, how I know bout this spot.... The owners son, used to live across the alley, and then across the street from me in any almost parallel location on the his block as I am on mine. I met this guy years ago in improv classes, and later did a few shows with him in the city. There came a point where he owed me money, he was bad with debt, so to ease me, he would give up frozen pizza, lasagna, and garlic bread he had from his dads place. Even though it was he and his wife's dinner, I appreciated the gesture as it became mine & my wife's dinner. As we ate these frozen pizzas and what not, we couldn't believe how freakin good it was, and even after being frozen. So I couldn't wait to get there and have it fresh. And I finally did after years of not having it delivered to me as a lame form of payment. He actually still owes mr a hefty amoutn of cash, and I paid full price at the restaurant when I ate there after driving for almost an hour and forty five to get there. Sheesh!

Now the food.

Seriously some of the most Monte-licious Garlic Bread I have ever eaten in my life. They bake the bread in house as a loaf, cut the loaf into a bit of a cubed, rectangular loaf, then soak in a garlic infused butter and re bake it till it's golden brownish/yellow. And it is crispy, buttery, garlicky, crunchy deliciousness you have not had anywhere else.

I had the lasagna which is not made in a sheet, stored in a fridge and served as ordered. Their lasagna is made fresh in a personal ramekin bowl. It is made with mozzarella cheese vs. ricotta, and they put mushrooms under the first layer of cheese for an extra special flavor in the meat lasagna. The sauce is rich, robust, and full of flavor that is fresh.

My buddy had the steak sand wich which looked, and tasted ridiculous. It comed served on their garlic bread, with a baked on melted cheese, oh my god was it delicious. The steak is a thinly sliced rib eye I believe, smothered in sweated down onions. So good.

So id yer near Milwaukee, or feel like makin a trip, check it out.

One other funny thing, the menu references to "Care and Smiles" at Leahs, and every time I called for the hours, or my wife would call to ask a question, or even when my buddies wife called to double check hours on our way up, the guy who answered the phone was really suspicious, and kinda jerky over the phone. But when we ate there, we met the culprit, and he was surprisingly nice.

I actually hope you care too. I have been lazy, my crutch in life, but I also have been eating a more "whole food" diet. No not Whole Foods the grocery chain, although that is where we shop, but "whole food" meaning nothing processed, out of a box, mixed together, etc. I am not on a diet, just looking at what I put into this dump truck of a body.

I had a Type 2 Diabetes scare a few months back, plus my knees were killin me like everyday, and I was close to 300 lbs. ....Again! I do not want an early death, and that is exactly what I was/may get. So I am trying to add years, instead of taking them away.

I still eat all the good stuff I enjoy, just less of it. Actually a lot less. I am trying to do my best 80% of the time, and the other 20% of the time, well I kinda abuse my body with a bunch of carbs, starchs, and sugars. Which, to much of that stuff wreaks havoc on my insides. Right now, I am running a VW Bug engine in a Dump Truck body, and that just ain't cuttin it. My poor heart keeps wondering what it did wrong to me, it feels like it owes me money the way I've been treating it. Liver too!

All that being said, you will still see me eating all the good stuff, but maybe with a fork, no bun, and topless. Topless, T-O-P-L-E-S-S!!! You'll do it!

P.S. I still eat burgers, steaks, cheese, bacon, vegetables, & fruits. I just cut back/down on the processed parts of my meals, and the heavy starches and un-natural sugars. Truth is, I usually hate buns, they are freakin filler for the most part. Rice constipates me, clogs my system for a day. And I actually love real whipped cream on fresh berries almost more than my beloved Dark Chocolate. And I still eat fat a$$, jucy, meaty, delicious burgers with cheese, bacon, and an egg, but I skip the bun. Well I skip most of the bun, I scrape the gooey parts that absorb all burger blood/juices. And I do my best to eat grass fed, organic, non hormone meats from local farms. Plus it tastes way better, and it supports people I can see/touch and speak too. Not a faceless corporation. Besides, have you ever eaten an egg from a chicken that just roams a farm freely eating bugs/berries, and dirt? The yolk from even the tiniest eggs are firm, upright, and almost orange. Not flat, runny, and yellow like a crayon. And the taste... You just gotta try one to see what I am talking about. And my desserts are mostly fresh berries and fruits that are not sprayed with chemically induced pesticides, with organic, non hormone treated, home made whipped cream. And I cook most everything in butter/Ghee.

So I will be posting again soon, mostly from my cheating meals, but every now & again you may see something a bit different. Don't be scared.

One last thing, why the change? Diabetes was right around the corner, and I hate medicine, plus being overweight makes it really hard to get health insurance. In a parallel universe, my wife has been reading up on eating in a paleo/caveman/primal blue print way, and everything she would read to me just seemed to make sense. So with the Diabetes breathing down my neck, and a doctor trying to prescribe something to lose weight and help with my insulin, I decided to take my new knowledge, and take things into my own hands. Almost two months in and I am almost 20 lbs. lighter, no scare of diabetes, and my knees feel the best they have felt since I was on a ten day steroid cycle. And before that, my knees haven't allowed me to run up and down stairs sine I was in my twenties, or early thirties. I have been running up and down the stairs all week, and loving it!!!!

Italian Turkey instead of Italian Beef. And it is Superb!

It's been a while, sorry. It is summer, and I am outdoors more than I am indoors.

Francos Italian Bakery & Deli in Streamwood, Il. at 1550 Bourbon Parkway has one of the most creative sandwiches I have had in a long time. I say creative cause I have never heard of, or even thought of an Italian Turkey sandwich in my entire life. Ever. And Francos has thought of it, and perfected it!

It is an Italian Beef, but with turkey, and turkey au jus instead of beef. And if yer a lover of turkey sandwiches, this may end up being one of yer favorites. Just imagine a well seasoned, herbed, beef sandwich in a fresh made crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside bun and then switch the meat to turkey and you pretty much got it. The Italian Turkey! And the buns are made in house, it's a bakery, and a deli.

The Italian Turkey is "Monte-licious!" and completely worth the drive for the sandwich. They also have excellent baked goods, deli sub sandwiches, and hot foods like pasta, and other Italian specialties.

The burger at Birchwood Kitchen in Wicker Park on 2211 W. North Ave. has plenty of amazing meals that are served on a rotating seasonally menu. Winter brought beefy, meaty, Reuben Sandwiches, and spring has fresh, organic, Beet and Goat Cheese Sandwiches on the menu. And a ton of other great treats I have sampled, and loved. But the burger stole my heart.

The Birchwood burger is only served during dinner hours, 5-9 p.m. Tue. - Fri. And my mouth salivates thinking about on the days I am planning to go and eat one. Let e preface by saying that this is the first place I had a burger medium - rare, I usually get medium. So the extra juiciness blew me away. I love a juicy burger. But this burger is also meaty, and fresh. The meat is so succulent. And it is topped with a few pieces of bacon. they are of a medium thickness, perfectly porky, and savory. And atop all of that, white cheddar cheese. What do I need to say about thick, cheddary, white pieces of melted cheese? And bringin up the bottom... A garlic aioli sauce, that is also soaking up meat juices from the burger. These juices are also dripping into a fresh sesame bun.

And the topper for the burger... It is Char-Grilled!! And we all know, everything tastes better on the grill. And the burger, as well as the bun have, and will always have tasty, charred, grill marks on em. I love that taste.

I also wanna plug the Basil infused Lemonade. They make a simple syrup with basil leaves, and use that to sweeten the lemonade. "Monte-licious!" And it's Free refills on the lemonade. They have excellent soups, salads, sides, and desserts too! Try the carrot cake, and the chocolate chip cookie. Lemon bar too.

Plus they have an outdoor patio in the summer! There are a ton of beautiful women there at any given moment also, that is awesome! Milf and hottie Hipsters galore.

Tacos topped with pickles? What?! Excellent!

Thanks to a tip by my buddy Hans Fleishman. He said since I was comin to L.A. to eat, I should check out K.K.'s site for some suggestions on where to eat. And what a great tip. Her site is awesome! And it led me to several great spots, which I will feature later. And K.K. was a lot of fun to hang with, and look at. She was very attractive, and her husband was super cool too.

I met K.K. for dinner at Malo, a taco spot that puts pickles on their tacos. At first I was like... "Meh, sounds to hipster and gross for me." But when I mentioned Malo to several of my L.A. friends, they all said, get the pickles! So I did, and man were they right. I got an order, which was 2 beef tacos, fried, with cheddar cheese and pickles. Nice, crunchy, juicy, crisp, succulent, pickles. What a perfect compliment to a deep fried, crunchy hard shell, beef taco. And the taco itself, it was "Monte-licious!" I think a lot of the love for this taco was because the taste was an immediate reminder to my moms tacos, and all my friends ma's tacos from when I was a kid. I loved those old school beef tacos on a crunchy shell. White boy tacos. And they do it right at Malo.

I also had the vegetarian version of the beef and pickle taco, and it was damn tasty, I would eat it again with pleasure. I loved Malo, K.K., and the whole evenings experience.

Pickle tacos are a flavor you will crave when it's all said and done. I wish I was there eating a pickle taco right now.

Pleasant House Bakery in Bridgeport for Meat Pies!!!

Pleasant House Bakery in Bridgeport, Home of the Royal Pies is on Chicago's south side, at 964 W. 31st. pl. And is a Meat Pie heaven! They also make sandwiches, and do a Friday Fish Fry.

Before I get into things, let me start by saying that most everything in the bakery is made fresh, in house. Things don't come from a box or out of a plastic bag. Most everything is local, organic, and from a nearby farm. The food here is prepared and made daily with a passion and love for the food product. They make their own sauces, puff pastry dough, fries, and even two different kinds of sodas. This is truly an upstart of a ma & pa place, but the owners have no children, so I guess it's more of hubby n wifey spot.

A meat pie is a savory vs. a sweet pie. And it comes in flaky, crusty puff pastry dough. And at Pleasant House Bakery they do it right.

So far I have had the Chicken Balti Pie which is tender chunks of white chicken meat stewed in curried tomato sauce then baked in a wonderfully light and flaky pastry pie. So freakin delicious!!! It is served with a side of Chutney sauce. chutney is a condiment like ketchup or mustard but this a traditional Indian condiment, and can be spicy, or vinegary, but not here. It is a mild sauce, with a cilantro flavor to it, and it is just full of rich flavor and deliciousness. Give it a try.

I also had the Steak Pasty, which is cubed skirt steak with rutabaga, onion, and potato all in a wonderful, flaky puff pastry. So it's light n flaky on the outside, and meat and potatoey on the inside. "Monte-licious!!!"

Give this place a try, it is worth the drive to Bridgeport. Realistically, it's not really that far anyway.

Carnival at 4356 Woodman Ave in the neighborhood known as Sherman Oaks California has some of the, if not thee best Chicken Shwarma I have ever eaten in my entire life! I know that is a bold statement, but hear me out.

First let me mention a few things, my buddy Mick Betancourt turned me onto to this spot, and he picked the perfect place for me. This was one of my favorite meals on my most recent trip to L.A. Plus, while we were there, so was James Spader! You know, the jerk from some cool movies in the 90's. I always liked his work. I accidentally got a shot of while taking my random shots of the interior. He is the dude in the red shirt and sunglasses in one of the pics. posted. And because of the Papparazzi, people hated seein me shoot myself while eating.

I also got a great pic. of a group of regulars at the spot which is posted as well.

Now on to some of the absolute best CHICKEN SHWARMA EVER!!!

If yer not familiar, Chicken Shwarma is prepared on a spit, like the Gyro we're all familiar with. But this is not a frozen haunch of meat, thrown onto a metal spear. At Carnival, they season, and layer fresh cuts of chicken onto a metal spit, with an onion on top so when it's cooking, the onion juices drip down onto, and into the meat. This all moves at a slow rotation in front of a low, but steady fire allowing all of the tender cuts of well seasoned white/dark chicken to cook up perfectly. You get the perfect crisp on the outside, meat that is the top layer, and the meat just beneath is cooking in all the juices, becoming extremely tender, and delicious/flavorful. The perfect savory meal if you will.

It is served, if you get it on the plate as a meal vs. a wrap, on a plate, placed atop a pita and fresh cut french fries. And it is freakin "Monte-licious!!!" I remember my first bite... The chicken was so tender, juicy, and full of rich flavor from the middle eastern spices/herbs. One bite, and yer in heaven. Most of the chicken sits atop fries, which is awesome! tIt's awesome because then they soak in all of the chicken juices that drip down into them, making them some of the best fries I have ever eatin in my life. The serving size was enormous, and it also came with a side of slaw, which was not bad, and a grilled tomato. I will definitely be going back.

We also had the appetizer sampler of Hummus (a ground chick pea spread/dip), Baba Ganoush (a ground eggplant/yogurt spread/dip), and falafel (fried chick pea, flour, cilantro and other stuff ball). All of which were amazing! Especially the falafel, so freakin good!

Lastly, there were a lot of beautiful, well endowed women eating there, who seemed to not be wearing bras, and kind of affect by the chill in the air from the AC. I enjoy the affect AC has on women with no protection. And afterward Mick took me for a cruise in his convertible Backdraft Cobra car! That was AWESOME!!! 0-60 in 2/3 sec.

1/2 Chicken Dinner for $5.75?! Whatta a steal deal!!!

Broilers Flip at 6009 West Montrose Avenue in The Portage Park/Dunning Neighborhood serves up a Half Roasted Chicken Dinner for $5.75!! It actually was just $5.25 but they raised the prices. Meh.

Not only do you get a half chicken, but you get potato wedges that have been seasoned with spices and herbs. The potatoes are also very soft, and slightly juicy from the light vinegar, and oil juice they sit in. This meal also comes with rice, and a cole slaw that is delicious, fresh and crunchy. And it comes with garlic bread that it super crisp and flat. All for $5.75!!

The chicken is a juicy, succulent rotisserie chicken that is prepared a little earlier, and thrown onto a char grill to heat it up to be served. It has that rotisserie juiciness, with that char grilled exterior... So freakin "Monte-licious!"

And all for only $5.75!! A halfa chicken yo!

The place has a parking lot too, free parking. It is connected to a mechanics auto garage. The reason I mention this is because the bathroom, the mens room that is, smells like the mens room in a garage. You smell the grudge from the garage in the bathroom. But only there, you wouldn't even know if ya didn't go in, or I didn't just tell you. And no cute girls work there. Not a one. Beh.

They have other great items too, and everything is prepared on a char grill. They have chilli with tamales in it. Kinda gross. But the burgers, hot dogs, etc. Excellent.

What the?! What the hell is a Beef Roll? A Beef Roll is one of the best things I have eatin in a while. It is awesome! But it is not in my beloved Chicago. No.

The Beef Roll comes to us via Sam's Pizza in Ottawa, Illinois. 802 W. Norris Dr. to be exact.

I have been going to Starved Rock for years to go hiking, take pics. of the magnificent Bald Eagles, Great White Pelicans, etc. And on my way home, I always stop for pizza. Always! I usually go to another great spot, but my favorite waitress there is prego, so why not try a new place? I thought to myself. Yes, I think like a dude. I think it has something to do with my male organ. But luckily it made my choice, and it lead me to the Beef Roll.

The BEEF ROLL: The Beef Roll is made in a pizza pan like you see for stuffed pizza, or pan pizza. A layer of pizza dough is placed in the pan, then it is filled with a layer of fresh mozzarella cheese, a layer of thinly shaved italian beef, then another layer of fresh mozzarella cheese. It is then topped off with another sheet of pizza dough. Now it looks kinda like a pie going into the oven. When it is finished, removed from the oven, while it is still piping hot, they brush atop the Beef Roll, melted butter, then sprinkle garlic powder, and parmesan cheese. And it is served with a side of beef au jus sauce to dip the slices into. Monta-Frickin-licious!!!!!!

I swear, if I were single and trying to get laid, this is where I would take a girl to impress her.

totally worth the drive. And it's under 2 hrs. away. Go hiking, fishing, whatever at Starved Rock, then go to Sam's for the Beef Roll! Whatta day!!!

Lem's, some of Chicago's finest B-B-Q.

Lem's B-B-Q at 311 e. 75th st in Chicago's very own Greater Grand Crossing hood on the South See-ide! [[Yelled like a gang slogan]] is easily some of Chicago's best place for Ribs, Wings, Links, and Tips. And that ain't no lie.

The ribs come as either center cut, which has almost no fat, or the end cut, which has some fat. You wanna get the end cut, the fat is where the flavor is at yo! And they come served old school, or as my buddy said "These are prison style," in a basket, atop a pile of fries, topped off with two slices of white bread. Monte-licious!! These are meaty, chewable ribs, definitely not fall off the bone. And even though I prefer fall off the bone, these ribs are so meaty and delicious, that I love chewing into them and ripping the meat off into my mouth. It makes me feel like an animal, like I hunted the meat myself. The sauce is slabbed on with a paint brush, and is a sweet, vinegar sauce that is sure to make you sweat. They also have a spicy sauce if ya like. In the photos I have the center cut, which is the meatier rib, and has no fat. Next time I will be getting the end cut.

The wings are superb as well, and they too are served prison style. In a basket, atop a pile of fries, smothered in vinegar sauce, topped off by two pieces of white bread. These wings are larger than yer usual bar wings by almost double. They are fried to perfection, nice and crunchy with a soft meaty chicken on the inside. And topped off with a mild vinegar sauce, you can not go wrong. Unless of course you have a heart condition, then eating here may be the wring thing for you to do.

The neighborhood isn't terrible, but at night, it's not the safest area to be in. Even Lem's serves the food through hole beneath the cash register, and everything is behind bullet proof glass. Yeah, go during the day. They don't open till 2 p.m. though, and that is probably the safest time to go.

Lem's is Monte-riffic and worth the drive for sure.

The Brown Sack!!! And I'm not talkin bout yer balls!

The Brown Sack in Chicago's Logan Square at 3581 W Belden Ave. has a super tasty Sloppy Joe! First I'd like to mention they have a bevy of other delicious sandwiches, side items, soup, etc. but I am gonna speak to you about the Sloppy Joe.

The Sloppy Joe at The Brown Sack is Monte-riffic! I am usually not one to order a Sloppy Joe, I go for something that seems like I couldn't make at home in 5 min. And a Sloppy Joe just seems like something so easy to make, I never order it. But I had the sandwich here last summer (2010) as part of a foodie bike tour. Which first off I'd like to say something about the bike tour, they took us everywhere I have been going for years, or to a spot where I am friends with the owner of the restaurant. They shoulda paid me to give the freakin tour!!! Anyway, I had the Sloppy Joe as part of the bike tour, and I was instantly impressed. First thing I noticed was that they put cheese on their Joe. That was something I was oddly not familiar with. And I loved it! There is nothing better than a nice melting piece of cheese atop yer sandwich dripping down into the meat itself. So freakin good. And the meat itself has unobtrusive, fresh, pieces of green pepper, and onion that are cooked till they are soft. There is nothing I hate more than large, hard, crunchy, chunks of pepper or onion in my Joe. That sucks! The meat is rich ground beef, full of meaty flavor that you can taste through the sauce. The sauce itself is slightly sweetened, barely sticky, and along with the meat, it is all sandwiched in a toasty bun. Monte-licious!

There is a very comfortable atmosphere in the restaurant which I can appreciate. And they have an outdoor patio in the yard, along a not so busy street. Which is key. I hate outdoor seating on a busy street, or sidewalks where people can walk by and look down on yer food as you eat. Since it is in Logan Square, the not so gentrified part, I say leave nothing of value, visible in yer car. It is no joke.

I also love anywhere where they love Walter Payton, and they/Adam the cool owner loves Walter at The Brown Sack. He was my childhood hero next to my dad. Even though I was a brat to my dad, he was my main guy. Still is. But Walter was my number 2.

Check out The Brown Sack, I think you'll dig it.

They play lots of cool live music there, which I love. And they play lots of Bob Marley, which I do not love.

Before I forget.... They also have stuff for vegetarians, they have salads, peanut butter n jelly sandwiches, they deliver, and they make Shakes & Malts!!

Indian Food in the French Quarter?! What?!! Yup!

While in New Orleans I found an excellent Indian spot. Yes it's true, there is some good a** Indian fare in the French Quarter. I know, I know, Louisiana is not known for Indian but luckily I found this great spot.

Salt & Pepper at 400 Iberville in the French Quarter has some of the most authentic Indian I have eaten. And I eat on Devon in Chicago regularly. I am well versed in the American versions of Indian food, and this place does it right.

I had the Chicken Masala and it was Monte-riffic! The chicken was juicy, well spiced, and bursting with flavor. The masala sauce and chick peas where perfect. The sauce had the right amount of spice, and a smooth consistency, while the chick peas tasted fresh and had a little bite to em still. This is a must try if yer in the area and lookin for something truly different in the area.

Before I forget, the decor is nothing special, it's just a bunch of uncomfortable benches. But yer not there for the decor, yer there for the food!

Mr. Beef and Pizza at 3917 N. Harlem Ave. is easily one of the best places in the city of Chicago to get an Italian Beef. This is in my professional, totally valid, and valued opinion. This place serves em huge, and a bit spicy, and greasy! Very Monte-riffic! I do not recommend getting a combo here, which is an Italian Beef with Italian Sausage. Not that they are terrible, but there is a different spot to get those where they are the best. Here, you get the beef. Dipped. Fries are good even though they're frozen, and you get a lot.

They also have a char grill and pizza slices, what more can you ask for besides a stripper poll?

Bananas Foster Cafe has amzingly Monte-licious Pancakes!!! A must try.

Bananas Foster Cafe in Chicago at 1147 West Granville Avenue has some of the best pancakes I have ever eatin in my life. They almost taste like funnel cake, but they're pancakes. So Freakin Monte-licious!

This is truly the spot to bring someone for breakfast if yer trying to make love to em and tryin to impress em. This place is also perfect the next morning, if you still like the person you woke up next to. It's also great to take ma & pa for a special treat.

You just need to go here and have the pancakes!

Also get Bubble & Squeak, mashed potatoes with peas and brussel sprouts in em and fried up like a burger. So good! Also try the in house made hollandaise sauce, again, Monte-licious! Omg!! I almost forgot, get the Bananas foster for christ sake!!!

Stizzity Steve's Steaks in Philly!

R & O's (Roland & Ora's) in lovely New Orleans/Metairie at 216 Old Hammond Hwy. has one of the best sandwiches I have ever put in my mouth. Period! The R & O special is Monte-licious!! And actually worth traveling out to, it is amazing!

The R & O special is chunks/chips/strips of roast beef in an absolutely amazing brown/beef gravy, topped with fried/shaved ham, tomato which I remove, cheese which I remove, mayonnaise, lettuce, and pickles on a house made bun with some sesame seeds. It is sloppy, delicious, and a real freakin delight to eat.

They also have awesome, home made desserts. They are really made at someones home and brought into the restaurant. The desserts aren't on the menu, but there are hand made signs up all over that list the desserts.

Also, they have really cute waitresses, as well as few that aren't.

I love R & O's and I love Nola!!!!

Petterino's at 150 N. Dearborn in Chicago's Loop neighborhood is a great place to get a skirt steak dinner. Usually I like to go to a mexican spot for skirt steak, it is usually gonna be a decent price, and you'll get a lot. But every now and again my wife and I like dress up, well I just wear a black shirt and khakis, and then we go some where a little nicer than we usually go to.

Petterino's is one of those spots. They do a great job with the skirt steak, it is grilled to perfection, then placed on top a ton of crispy frites (french fries), and the steak itself gets topped off with a little butter, spices, and chopped parsley? Maybe. something green, tasty. Probably not parsley. And it is drizzled with a ton of fried onions. So Monte-licious! It is not inexpensive here, but the skirt steak dinner is comparable to most places.

the wedge salad, and dessert were Monte-riffic! That vinaigrette is some of my all time favorite. And the chocolate, pecan pie, a 10!

Petterino's is named after the guy who ran Chicago's ever popular Pump Room.

The Bongo Room in Wicker Park at 1740 N. Milwaukee Ave. Serves up a Monte-licious breakfast, and on of my recent faves.... The BLT Benedict with a pesto hollandaise sauce is delicious. They use spinach, and bacon, topped by a wonderfully monte-riffic poached egg, and that pesto hollandaise sauce... it makes the meal. It comes served with triangled , seasoned red potatoes, get em well done, which are very tasty, and the english muffin is good.

One of my favorite things about the meal was, I took half home, and reheated it the next day in my counter top convection oven... it was so goooood! Even the next day. Keep in mind I said convection oven, and not microwave. Microwaves ruin everything, don't use em.

The place is definitely expensive, they charge over $3 for a small OJ that is no more than maybe 3 shot glasses worth of product. And the meals themselves are pricey, but, and this is important, for the meal, it's totally worth it. Completely. Skip the drinks. The service is good, and there are a lot of cute girls there. And the ladies will probably like the boys there.

Shaw's in Chicago is at 21 E. Hubbard in the Near North Side. We had the wedge salad, which they have one of my all time favorite house salad dressings there. We also had the King Salmon, Grouper and Raspberry pie. And by we, I mean me and my wife, Meatball Head.

My favorite spot for breakfast was a place called Patty's Diner which was at 3358 Main St. in Skokie, Il. It is gone/closed/finito. It closed Dec. 31st. 2010. This place was absolutely the best place I have ever been to for Ham Hash, a hamburger, and biscuits & gravy. It was owned and run by Patty and her sisters, and a few friends for 20 years! I am still saddened by it's absence, so here are a few pics. to remember it by.

New York Deli in Chicago?! What? Yes, it's true. And it's good!

This is not me in the photo, it is Kevin Hogan, they guy I photographed.

So I do head shots for people from time to time. I am a great photographer, and I give a great deal. $50, you get great head shots and you buy me a lunch/meal/sandwich. It's a great deal for everyone involved, and it brings me to new places to eat I am not yet familiar with.

Last week I shot a man named Kevin Hogan, he was down for the deal, and excited to bring me to a place he knew of that I have never been to before. Exciting for me!

We ended up a place called New York Deli at 2921 N. Clark St. in Lakeview. The sandwich was Monte-licious!! I got a sandwich called the RJ that had pastrami, and turkey on it. It comes with a little olive oil and herbs on top the bun that has been lightly toasted, I loved the bread!

The place was great, and I learned some neat suff about Kevin. I learned that Kevin had owned a few hot dog carts in St. Louis, which has been a dream of mine since I was a child. But I wanna own em in Chicago. I also learned he went to Harvard on a full scholarship for one semester, it was what was free, and after that he returned to St. Louis and went somewhere local he could afford. Super cool!!

So to sum it up, the sandwich at New York Deli was great, and worth checkin out. My only gripe, the kid who took our order was kind of a dick, but Kevin said he wasn't familiar with that kid, and that the other guy who showed up later was cool, and made a bigger sandwich. So next time, I am expecting bigger and better, and will leave if I see the kid that was there my first time.

Sick Steak Tacos!! Sick!!

Sol De Mexico at 3018 N. Cicero Ave. in Chicago's Cragin neighborhood has some of the absolute tastiest, most Monte-licious steak tacos I have eatin in a loooong time!! Plus they come with this amazing sauce of sour cream and stewed/grilled onions. I had it on the side due to my freakin lactose intolerance, but I ate it all, and I paid for it later trust me.

They also make their own tortilla shells, this to me is top notch. So check it out, but be prepared for a more inflated tab vs. most other places. You are gonna pay for the quality here, believe me. Oh, don't keep anything visible in yer car that has any value. It's not the worst eighborhood, but I have my car broken into before in the area, but not at the restaurant itself. Just watch yer belongings over there is all I'm sayin.

3915 Touhy Ave. Lincolnwood, Il. next to the Long John Silvers

I found a great butter cookie spot!! I love butter cookies, but I absolutely love the turtle butter cookies best. Only problem is, most places/bakeries I get em at, the cookies are usually a little hard, caramel is a bit chewy, and the chocolate is like the chocolate coating they use on ice cream cones. Hard. Which I like, but not on a cookie.
Anyway, I am in an air rifle club, and one of my fellow shooters, who are German, was tellin me one night, that in Germany, everyone learns a trade or skill in school starting when you are a child. So by the time yer an adult, on yer own, and in the real world, you are a master at what you do, and hopefully a professional. She said, this is the best way to teach/raise a child. And I agree, I think that is very smart, kinda wish I was raised in that fashion. But I am not German. She proceeded to tell me that her husband was a baker, trained since he was a child in Germany, and when he came to America he opened a bakery. It became the family business. She said everything that he made there was the best; he baked everyday with love, and years of experience. Experience that he passed down to his son. She said that fortunately her son had an interest/love for baking at an early age, so the father trained him, basically groomed him to take over the business one day, and he did. She said that her baked just as well as his father, and that the tradition and quality of the their product was incomparable; the best.

I know most parents are going to be on their child's side, that's just the way it is. I mean, you could show my mom video footage of me committing a crime, and she'd say it was either a look a like, that I was sleep walking, or that it was a computer generated image of me placed in that situation. But I was raised with these kids who had a straight up German mother from Germany, and I saw her humiliate my friends on multiple occasions when they made mistakes. It’s where I learned, humiliate, intimidate to motivate from. So I have an opinion, be it a blanket opinion, right or wrong, that German parents would not tolerate substandard achievements. So when all the conversation and family praising was done, I knew, I had to go to this bakery.
I now had a mission.

The directions were simple; it's on Touhy, east of Pulaski/Crawford next to the long Long John Silver. Ppppffff, it was exactly like she told me; on Touhy, just east of Pulaski/Crawford, and it was right next to the Long John Silver. But from the outside, it didn't look impressive. I don't mean it looked bad, it’s just with all this talk of history, and tradition, I was expectin an old school lookin bakery; all white, or yellow, with a big old cheesy sign from the 60's. And instead, it was all brown, pretty modern looking, and the name of the place; "Schlegls" was in a weird font on an ugly brown awning. So visually, I was kinda disappointed.

Well, I drove all the way out here, I am going to just go inside and check it out, I thought to myself. I walk inside, and immediately it smelled fantastic. It was small, and everything was tightly set up right in front for you to see immediately. Now it was becoming much more impressive. The baked items look amazing! It’s not a bunch of ridiculous cupcake flavors, or crazy lookin cakes & currie flavored cookies. It’s traditional, old school bakery goods I love; butter cookies, donuts, brownies, coffe cakes, some covered in chocolate. This is a throw back to the stuff I remember loving as a child, where most things are covered in chocolate frosting! And being a good German bakery, they even had plum cake. And then, there they were, my beloved; turtle cookies. Butter cookies topped with a splash of caramel, a sprinkle of pecans, and a dollop of chocolate. All of my favorites in one sweet treat!
There it is, waiting for me, I order two of em, and two butter cookies with chocolate kisses on em. The girl behind the counter puts em in a box and tapes it shut. Tapes it! I said, “Tape, a mild deterrent.” She looked at me and laughed, I wanted to have sex with her. I immediately ripped the tape of in an “I’m insulted” manner, and asked her if she could throw it away for me. She didn’t laugh. I still wanted to sex her.
I am in my car, right in front of the bakery; I cannot wait so I open the box. Right away I begin to get excited, when I remove the top layer of paper from the cookies, it is covered in chocolate. This is a good sign; it means the chocolate is not hard like on an ice cream cone. The chocolate is actually smooth & creamy chocolate frosting, and he pecans are fresh and soft. The caramel, some of the best, smoothest, creamiest, softest caramel I have ever bitten into. And the actually plate in which all of these wonderful treats were delivered on, or you can call it a Butter Cookie, was absolutely, perfectly yhe right texture; not to chewy, not to crunchy, but it had the perfect give, and feel on yer my teeth, and was it buttery. But not to buttery, like if you set in a cardboard box for a few and moved it, it wouldn’t look like you just moved a piece of pizza.

And the butter cookie with chocolate kisses was excellent to, same plate/butter cookie, covered in tiny little chocolate kisses. And the chocolate was delicious/”Monte-licious!” they may be tiny kisses, but boy, that is some smooth, milky chocolate, they are one of a kind.
The German lady from my air rifle club, and her family’s tradition pulled through. The cookies were impressive, and made look inside, I wish I had some sorta family tradition like that, but I don’t. My dad did things I am not at liberty to speak of, and my mom worked in a factory. And I love em both more than anything for doing whatever it took to provide. I just wish we had some tradition is all. We all have stinky feet.

How to make Chilaquiles.
Chilaquiles are a Mexican breakfast treat that are "Monte-licious!" This meal is so easy to make, delicious, and it's extremely inexpensive.

you will need chips, any salsa you like (i used tomatillo i took from one of my favorite spots), eggs/egg , olive oil (to fry egg in), sour cream, and cheese (which i did not use).

so the pics. are pretty self explanatory and in order of how you should proceed, but i will run it down for you real quick like...

take yer salsa, put in a sorta shallow pot, heat it up to a slight boil. let it sit at that slight boil, add yer chips. stir em in till they get to a nice soft consistency you will like. i like em soft like baby food. that should only take a few minutes, then put em on yer plate. after that, using the same pot, put in yer olive oil. when that gets hot, add yer egg. put a lid so it sorta steam cooks the egg and you won't need to flip it for it to be cooked all the way through. plus it looks prettier if you don't flip it. once the egg is finished, slide on to the top of yer chilaquiles, add a dollop of sour cream, bust that egg yolk, and go to town. most people add cheese, and or a side of meat served with it. you do what you want. enjoy!

Why “Appetite for Destruction” by Guns n’ Roses is one of the all time greatest rock albums ever!! In my humble opinion.

The year is 1987, heavy metal is goin’ strong. 1986 brought us “Master of Puppets,” “Reign in Blood,” “Somewhere in Time,” and “Peace Sells, but Who’s Buying?” By Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, and Megadeth. Music for me was peaking!!
No worries of the doom and gloom Grunge sh*t at this time.

Now comes 1987, Anthrax, King Diamond, Helloween, and Testament release some of their finer albums (“Among the Living,” “Abigail,” “Keeper of the Seven Keys,” and the debut album from Testament – “The Legacy.” All greats!

But then came “Appetite for Destruction!” (October 3, 1987)
Guns n’ Roses? Who are they? Is that two people singing? Is that really someone’s voice? What the f*ck kind of an album cover is that? The original I am referring to, not the cross with heads cover. Who is that freakin’ guitar player with the big hat, crazy hair, and no face? How does he even see what he’s doin? Wait a minute, it is just one guy singing! They do that great song? And this one? That one too? All on one album?!!!!! NO FREAKIN’ WAY!!!!!

But yes, it was all true. “Appetite for Destruction” introduced the world to Guns n’ Roses. Now a bit of a joke due to ego, and infighting. But at one time, they were one of the greatest, most influential rock bands ever. They set the scene for a new take on an old look in rock n’ roll, and a new sound. A sound that was not heard before, and since, and has never been duplicated. Many bands have tried, but no one did what they did, like they did it.

Today it makes me sad that they are seen at as a joke to most. Axl is deemed a fool, and ego maniac. Slash is the good guy, and he probably is. Steven Adler, even though far removed from the band for years, is still a mess, because of the band. The other dudes, Duff, and and Izzy, considered good guys too, but not really the popular ones in the band. But Izzy, I always thought Izzy had that cool Rolling Stones vibe about him, and I do like his song “14 years” on “Use yer Illusion.” And Duff, from what I hear (on Howard Stern), is a stocks whiz, and does pretty well doin that. Besides the GnR money he, and everyone is still collecting.

Guns n’ Roses were definitely one of the cooler bands to influence my generation. I am proud to have been there in the beginning, as a fan, and that I was able to see them for what they really were and not what they have become. Even yer grandmother knows “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” C’mon!

I still listen to “Appetite” on a regular basis. I say it proudly, and I truly love every song from top to bottom, that album really takes me back. It was one of my funeral albums I would like played when my friends come to check out my dead body, or Urn.

And if you don’t agree with me, I don’t wanna hear about it!! It was painful enough seein’ Gn’R with other dudes playin’ all that great music. And it felt a little soulless when the guitar player would whip out a “Slash” solo. It just wasn’t right. I can only hope they settle their differences one day.
I am a proud Gn’R fan!!

That sentence is what I am all about. That is it. Now let me elaborate.

I had a conversation one day with a gentleman who told me that he had been to 5 of the places I featured in my segments as part of the morning show I am fortunate to be a part of, "You & Me This Morning" on WCIU Chicago. I was extremely flattered, but he did mention that he wasn't all that impressed with a few of my spots, and I understand that. And that really struck me as something important.

And this is my point... I like these places, a lot. And I point out the things I like to eat when I go there, and that's what I am recommending to you. And I know some of these places may not be that great, as he pointed out, and he is right. 100% correct!
But there is something about every single one of these spots that I love for one reason or another. It may be an acquired taste, I have become friends with the owner, whatever, but I really like the places I feature. But I know it's all personal preference. So please keep that in mind when you visit any one of the spots I recommend, but please do visit them. You never when or where yer gonna find a great meal at a good deal.

And to my friend, I really appreciate you checkin out my spots, and I appreciated yer honesty with me. It has helped me get out a much needed point I had to address.

FEED! located at 2803 W. Chicago Ave. in Humboldt Park is "Monte-licious!" This place is servin up traditional American food. They have excellent catfish sandwiches, burgers, rotisserie chicken, etc. And they're sides are huge! And the fries are great with a side of mayo and ketchup mixed together. You have to do that yerself though, they will not be mixin this wonderful concoction together.

La Brasa Roja for your rotisserie chicken needs! and for under $5. They are located at 3125 W. Montrose Ave.

They do have a few other locations in the city, but this one has the $4.95 special all day long!!!! The lunch special is red beans, white rice, a small salad with a lime for dressing and yer choice of a quarter of rotisserie chicken, a char grilled chicken breast, or a char grilled piece of rib eye steak. What an amazing special!! But you gotta go to the Montrose Ave. location, I know for sure that at one of their other locations the special has selected hours of availability then it goes up 3 or 4 dollars. Who wants that? Not me.

And you really should try the fig dessert, it is "Monte-licious!" even though it costs almost as much as a full meal.

Danny's Market at 2140 North Western Avenue is one of Chicago's many grocery store/supermarkets that sports a little restaurant somewhere in the back of the store or off to the side of the cash registers. Usually these are gonna be mexican restaurants, actually, that's all i have ever seen. but the point is, these are mostly gonna be great little spots with really fresh food. duh! it's in a store that sells fresh groceries!

there are dozens of these places if not hundreds around the area. so next time yer a t yer local neighborhood grocer, take a look around, or if you smell something good, go check it out. it's probably gonna be a good spot for you. i know danny's is good for me!

photographed are the sopes. sopes are basically a thicker corn tortilla that's more like a plate itself. it is loaded with meat, lettuce, cheese, tomato, etc. and fried on the flat grill. it is "monte-licious!!"

and when yer done eating, you can do a little grocery shoppin for the week!

"Taquria El Asadero" is across the street from Welles Park at 2213 W. Montrose Ave. And it is easily one of the better char-grilled steak taco spots in Chicago.

It can get very slow at times, but that is because they cook the food fresh to order. I actually almost left a few times due to the wait, but I stayed cause I knew what was comin. they make their chips, which are excellent! And they have excellent horchata. If you don't what that is... it's a sweet vanilla-ee, cinamony, drink that is a great thirst quencher. You have just got to check it out!!!

Mr. D's Shish - Kabobs located at 6656 W. Diversey - right by the Brickyard Mall, which i used to hang out at when i was a kid. it was actually a lot of fun too!

Mr. D's is an excellent choice for char-grilled steak sandwiches, shish-kabobs, and hamburgers. really everything at D's is good. and if he's feeling sociable, which he usually is, Mike, the owner (D) with a raspy, scratchy voice, is totally unique and interesting.

but one of the real secret weapons are his stewed/grilled onions. they are the best! if you like onions that is. they're super soft like baby food, and have been marinated/seasoned in lots of wonderful spices for what tastes like an eternity. they are soooooo good. to me. a must have on anything you choose to get. plus, he still makes his own fresh cut fries!

i've been going there since i was kid with my cousins. when we were kids, D would hook us up by leaving food at the door if he was closing and we called to late. he'd let us just pay him next time we came in. that was an excellent perk too! but we lost it, my cousin got arrested and went to prison for years. ended the whole thing. whatta jerk. my cousin.

this is an amzing Jamaican restaurant. i feel if i grew up with jamaican friends in my hood, this is what i would have eaten in their homes. but i didn't, so this will do just fine!

pictured is the Roast Beef marinted in herbs n' spices and the Veggie Stir Fry, both excellent items. the roast beef is extremely tender and full of sweet and spicy flavors. not salty at all. the veggies are fresh, and full of nutrients. they both come with rice n' beans which are perfect for sloppin up the juices on the plate.

i have also had the Brown Stew Chicken, and that is delicious too! and it's a way better price than the Roast Beef, which is "Monte-licious!"

i love the food, but i loathe the music! and i don't wanna hear about it either!!

I said it, "Waiting in a long line at a restaurant is for DING-DONGS!!!" I see all these people waiting in line blocks long at hot dog stands for Christs sake!!! Hot Dog Stands!!!!!! Are you kidding me?!!!!

People, we live in Chicago, currently the third most populated state in America. Plus, potentially one of the greatest "foodie" cities in the free world!!! That is not debatable. You can walk a block or two and find another great spot in just minutes. But no, "Ding-Dongs" will wait.

I mean no discredit to a single one of the establishments that has these long lines, I have been to most, and love em'! But I will not wait more than 15 minutes and neither should you.

Every spot you love has a down time, a brief period, like on the Kennedy, when it is wide open, and you can eat/speed to yer hearts delight with no worries of waiting, or interfering with to many other people. I know, this is when I go to these places, during their down times. My advice... get there 15 min. before they open, that is usually the best way to do it, or hit it right after the lunch rush. I suggest just after 2 or 2:30 in the afternoon. And if yer doin dinner, try to make reservations, or do an early dinner. Any time usually before 6 or 6:15 is best.

Ultimately if you like to wait on line for minutes that turn into hours for a hot dog, burger, or a taco... well, that's on you, but just know, you don't have to.

When you see a long line, it's time o explore. That's what makes this city so great, so many options! There are over 22,000 places to eat in Chicago, trust me, you can find a new great place that serves sausage in a bun, or beef on a roll.

And by all means, frequent the places with the long lines, but if you hate to wait, follow my tips and you'll end up using yer time more wisely. you can sit at home and take ten minutes to construct one sentence in a blog for fear of peoples harsh opinions.

Get outta line!!!!!!

Tommy's was the first place we ate when we arrived in San Francisco. Our friend Deter told us it's one of the Hofbraus you could ever hope to eat at.

I love Hofbraus, they are restaurants that serve excellent cuts of fresh meats like corned beef, roast beef, and turkey.

At Tommy's I had the corned beef/roast beef combo with mashed potatoes a salad and a roll. the meat was super tender & juicy, it fell apart on the plate and it melted in my mouth. It was some of the most tender, flavorful meat you could ever hope to eat.

It is undeniable delicious. If yer a meatatarian, like myself.

If yer name is Jay Harris, or anyone else who loves to be a foodie, Tommy's is the joynt you'll love fer the rest of yer natural days on this planet.

The “Horseshoe” at the Sunrise Café

The “Horseshoe,” an amazing piece of eaterie! The Horseshoe is toast, covered with yer choice of meat (ham, bacon, hamburger, turkey, etc.), then covered by hot pourable cheddar cheese, finally, it is topped off with fries. You can get the breakfast Horseshoe which is basically the same, except then you switch the cheese with biscuits & gravy gravy, and instead of fries, hash browns.
I never had a Horseshoe before until last night (April 18, 2010), and it has immediately become one of my favorite things to eat. The wonderful combination of bread, meats and melted cheeses, all topped by fries is a no brainer! It’s amost worth moving to the states capital. You really get an amazing taste sensation in yer mouth with every bite.

Melted cheese on top of anything is pretty much gonna be good. It’s almost like turning any food into a huge plate of nachos, but not really. It’s so freakin’ good!!!
The Horseshoe really is a fantastic food, and from what I know it is only served up in this central/southern part of Illinois. So next time yer in, or around the capital of Illinois, Springfield, stop somewhere, anywhere and try a Horseshoe! They are absolutely “Monte-licious!”

A few things about the “Sunrise Café;” I heard a commercial for a “Deep Fried” Horseshoe, then I was recommended to go and try one by one of the customers later, I heard every kind of music in there from hip – hop to rock n’ roll being played over the speakers, which I loved, everyone seemed to have tattoo’s on their hands or wrists, everyone was friendly and eager to tell us where to get the best Horseshoe in town and not one person, not even the employee’s named the place we were in!! but it was amazing at The Sunrise Café. And finally, I can’t wait to head out and some more Horseshoe’s today, which I will be doin’ very shortly!

Oh jeez!!! I almost forgot to tell you about the desserts at the Sunrise Café. Yes, they have some amazing sweets; they have homemade pies, and cakes. I got a piece of cake last night and my buddy got pie, we both agreed, excellent!!!!!!!

As soon as I walked into Panchos Pistolas I was like, what the...? It's pretty much all super hot woman workin' up-front. And I do mean smokin’ hot! The women here shame the Hooters women, shame! They were so hot, my first thought was, “No way can the food be good here look at all the hot chicks and the cheesy decorating".
So I ordered my basic starter for a new spot, my test food sorta speak. I got two steak tacos, only lettuce. Yes, only lettuce. I like to scale it down a little sometimes so I can really taste whether the meat is good or not. Any way, Pancho's meat passed with flying colors, it was Monte-riffic! The food is as good as the woman look. It was real nice charbroiled skirt steak that was perfectly butchered: no fatty krap and it’s not chewy. Plus, I also ordered a “Horchata” cause no Mexican restaurant is worth eating at if they don't have good “Horchata” and their “horchata” is great.
Since then I have been back several times and not once have I been disappointed. The pastor (marinated pork) is perfect. It's the kind on a spit that has been cooking all day in its own wonderful juices. And the chorizo is great.
The food at Pancho's is so good you'll want to hug me. Oh! And another great thing is: Freddies Beef is right across the street, which is very Monte-riffic!
Two people can easily eat a good hearty meal (minus the
alcohol, did i mention they serve booze?) For under $25 - $20. Now you know where to go for a good meal at a good deal.

My all time favorite Pannini Sandwich! Baked, not pressed!

One of my current favorites right now is the open-faced baked pannini sandwich from "Caponies." It is easily one of the better sandwiches I have had in a long time!
So check it out, they make their own bread, not for everything, but they do for the pannini. The bread they make, it's kinda like a focaccia, the thicker Italian round type of tomato bread, but only the bread part. No tomatoes, olive oil, and Italian spices on top. Then, they split into two halves!! Which makes it ridiculously huge!!
Next they top each halve of the bread they just split into two with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, olive oil, and Italian seasonings. But of course that is not all, that all sits on top of your choice of grilled veggies, chicken, prosciutto, or ham. And then they give you some tomato sauce on the side to top it off. And it's all baked in their wood burning, stone oven. “Monte-licious!”

If you don’t know about Burt’s, well, it’s time you do.
Burt himself has a long history of being a pizza guy. He owned and operated some of the areas most favorite and popular pizza spots; “The Inferno,” “Gulliver’s,” and he was the original owner of “Pequods!” Yes, this man has a history of being involved in, and creating some of the more reputable places in town.
So I ask you, why would you ever go to any of his former spots, where he is no longer affiliated, when you can go right to the man himself? You wouldn’t!!!!
Go to Burt’s!!!
This man has been making some of the best, crunchiest, sauciest, pan pizzas since the year I was born! 1971!!! And man does he do it right. Especially with the help of his wife, Sharon, she single handedly runs the front, she’s the only server. And serve you she will. At Burt’s, the pizza doesn’t come to yer table, no, no, no, they sit it at a table next to you, where all the pizzas rest, and she serves it to you one delicious slice at a time.
The pizza itself is a not to thick pan pizza. Burt makes it just right, not to thick and doughy, and not to thin to lose the crunch from the sauce n’ cheese. And the sauce is just right, and is the perfect compliment to the nice layer of cheese it sits on top of. I get sausage and pepperoni, and man…. Is it freakin “Monte-licious!”
One important thing you need to know, actually there are two things; no credit cards, and you must call ahead and place yer order. That’s how they roll at Burt’s. And believe me, it’s just better that way. You show up and yer pizza is usually waiting for you, or is just coming out of the oven. This is especially great if yer doin it for lunch during work hours, saves you some time.
So check out “Burt’s Place,” call ahead, don’t bring a credit card, and they’re not open on Monday or Tuesday.

i spent most of this day in milwaukee, and i bought some fireworks on the ride home to chicago!!! only the legal, safe fireworks. the ones that even children can use... like sparklers n stuff like that. you can buy the same stuff i got there, here at a walgreens.
